Check Out These Results: Dark Circles Under Eyes Before and After

May 10, 2023 | The Centre London

Eye bags can be disturbing, but thankfully, you can eliminate dark circles.

Dark circles under the eyes are a common concern as we age. However, lower blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure, can treat dark circles.

Over time, the skin around the eyes can lose elasticity and become thin, leading to visible veins and shadows that make us look tired and aged. By removing or repositioning fat, tightening the skin, and smoothing out under eye wrinkles, lower blepharoplasty can provide a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

To show the transformative results of this procedure, I’ll discuss the benefits of the procedure below. I have also compiled before and after photos of real patients. These examples can help you better understand what to expect if you’re considering lower blepharoplasty to address dark shadows and circles under your eyes.

What Causes Lower Eyelid Dark Circles?

Dark circles are caused by many factors such as genetics, ageing, and sun damage.

Here are the most common causes of dark eye circles:

Age

As we age, the skin around the eyes becomes thinner. Fat and collagen levels also decrease, making under eye circles more apparent.

Genetics

Some people have a genetic predisposition to thinner skin and more visible under eye circles.

Lack of sleep

Sleep deprivation can cause the skin to become paler, making dark eye circles more visible. Additionally, lack of sleep can lead to fluid buildup and dilated blood vessels, which can further accentuate dark eye circles.

Allergies

Inflammatory reactions due to allergens can lead to increased blood vessel dilation, intensifying the appearance of under-eye shadows.

Dehydration

Skin lacking adequate moisture may seem more sheer, emphasizing shadows beneath the eyes.

UV Exposure

Prolonged UV exposure might compromise cell strength and thin out the skin, emphasizing dark patches beneath the eyes.

Blood Vessel Patterns

Visible blood vessels beneath the eye region, given its fragile and thin nature, can be a significant factor in the appearance of dark shadows. However, other aspects, like skin pigment changes or facial structural shading, can influence their prominence.

To target these concerns effectively, pinpointing the root cause is vital. Seeking guidance from accredited aesthetic professionals, such as Dr. Julian De Silva, can offer insight into potential triggers and suitable remedies or modifications in daily habits.

Is it Possible to Get Rid of Dark Circles?

Thanks to innovation in cosmetic procedures, dark circles can go away.

Dark under eye circles can improve or go away, depending on the underlying cause.

As you age, the skin around your eyes can become thinner and lose collagen, making dark circles more visible. While you cannot reverse the ageing process, you can take steps to care for your skin with a healthy lifestyle, moisturising, and using sun protection.

Since allergies can also cause dark circles due to inflammation and rubbing the eyes, addressing them using medication or avoiding allergens may help improve the appearance of dark circles.

Additionally, dehydration can contribute to dark circles, so you must drinking enough water. Staying hydrated can also help the body maintain a proper balance of fluids, which may improve the appearance of dark eye circles.

How Do You Get Rid of Dark Circles Permanently?

You can get rid of dark circles permanently through lower eyelid surgery.

Lower blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that can get rid of dark circles. The dark circles that it can eliminate can be caused by various factors such as volume loss, excessive fat, and skin laxity. This type of eyelid surgery also offers you longer lasting effects relative to non-surgical treatments.

During lower blepharoplasty I will remove or reposition fat. In some cases, I will remove excessive skin or tighten your underlying muscles by your lower eyelid area. As a result, your dark circles’ appearance will be reduced and the shadows caused by bulging fat or hollows under the eyes will be gone.

If you are looking into getting lower blepharoplasty to get rid of your dark circles, you must consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon, cosmetic surgeon, or oculoplastic surgeon. They will assess your issues and concerns and see if lower blepharoplasty is the best option for you.

Best Treatment for Dark Circles

Lower blepharoplasty is considered one of the best treatments for dark circles under the eyes.

This surgical treatment includes removing or repositioning fat, tightening the skin, and smoothing out wrinkles and lines for a more youthful look.

Unlike non-surgical procedures such as laser resurfacing, creams, or fillers, lower blepharoplasty gives permanent results that can significantly improve the look of your dark under eye circles. In addition, the procedure at my clinic is tailored to your unique needs and can be combined with other treatments, such as a facelift or brow lift for optimal results.

Moreover, lower blepharoplasty deal with other signs of ageing, including puffiness, bags under the eyes, and wrinkles. It is a safe and effective procedure when performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, like I, Dr. Julian De Silva.

However, it’s important to note that lower blepharoplasty is not ideal for anyone. Other factors may contribute to the appearance of dark circles, such as vascular issues. In this case, laser treatments can help, since they shrink dilated blood vessels.

Cosmetic Surgery Results: Before and After Photos

A 61-year-old executive felt that his ageing eyelids made him appear tired and angry, even though he wasn't.

Patient 1

A 61-year-old executive felt that his ageing eyelids made him appear tired and angry, even though he wasn’t. This became worse over the years, pushing him to research plastic surgery in London to determine the best procedure for his situation. After careful thought, he scheduled a consultation with me.

During the consultation, I assessed the patient’s eyelids and suggested upper-eyelid surgery to address the drooping skin above his eyes. I removed excess skin and fatty deposits beneath his eyes as needed. This procedure is known as dermatochalasis.

The patient underwent hidden incision eyelid surgery, or transconjunctival blepharoplasty, along with a muscle sling for eyelid support. I then tightened the underlying muscles to create a firmer, more youthful appearance using canthopexy. Instead of traditional techniques, I used the latest innovation in eyelid surgery to preserve some fat and avoid eyelid hollowing. This procedure is known as the Fat Preservation Technique.

Older methods that remove all fat can result in a hollow, aged, and unnatural appearance. Hence, I use the most current techniques to achieve natural-looking results, drawing on experience from my time in New York and Los Angeles.

Upon completion of the patient’s blepharoplasty, his eyes appeared softer and more alert, as seen in his post-surgery photos. He was also delighted with the outcome and no longer had concerns about appearing angry all the time.

Her friend referred this 63-year-old woman to me because she was concerned that her drooping brows and puffy lower lids were overshadowing her brown eyes.

Patient 2

Her friend referred this 63-year-old woman to me because she was concerned that her drooping brows and puffy lower lids were overshadowing her brown eyes. She hoped that eyelid surgery at the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery would enhance her eyes’ appearance by making them bolder and more refreshed. After meeting me, she decided that eyelid surgery would help her achieve her desired outcome.

During eyelid surgery, fatty deposits causing puffiness, excess skin, and muscle are reduced and repositioned to smooth and tighten the area. After the surgery, the patient’s eyes looked fuller, smoother, and more prominent, as seen in the “after” photo taken six months post-surgery.

The sagging above her eyes also decreased, making them appear more extensive and alert than in the “before” photos. She was delighted with her new look, as her eyes now stand out. The patient also receives many compliments about her big, beautiful brown eyes.

A 45-year-old professional woman began to notice signs of ageing and wanted to restore her youthful appearance.

Patient 3

A 45-year-old professional woman began to notice signs of ageing and wanted to restore her youthful appearance. She was particularly displeased with the puffiness and bags under her eyes, prompting her to schedule an appointment with me.

During the consultation, the patient expressed her desire to appear younger and more refreshed, noting that her eyes looked tired due to the bags beneath her lower eyelids. She wished to have tighter and smoother skin. I recommended lower eyelid surgery to remove the excess fat causing her fat bags, which would enhance her facial contours and achieve the rejuvenated look she desired.

Post-surgery photos indicate a successful procedure. The patient appears more rested and refreshed. Her hazelnut brown eyes look more prominent than before, and the blepharoplasty tightened the skin below her eyes, softening wrinkles.

Lower Blepharoplasty by Dr. Julian De Silva

In this video, I discussed how I perform lower blepharoplasty at my clinic.

Lower blepharoplasty can address many issues, including dark circles, loose skin, and excess orbital fat.

Lower blepharoplasty can help reduce dark circles by removing excess fat and tightening the skin, making the area appear smoother and more youthful. In some cases, the surgeon may also use a fat repositioning technique, where the excess fat is redistributed to fill hollow areas, such as the tear troughs, further reducing the appearance of dark circles.

During lower blepharoplasty, an incision is made along the lash line or inside the lower eyelid (transconjunctival approach) to access the underlying tissues. Excess skin is then carefully removed, and the remaining skin is tightened and sutured, giving the lower eyelids a firmer and more youthful appearance.

If your goal is to remove excess fat, the fat pockets are accessed through the incisions made either along the lash line or inside the lower eyelid. Excess fat is then removed or repositioned to create a more even and smoother contour around the eyes.

Recovery time and results may vary depending on the individual and the extent of the surgery.
