Can a Nasal Valve Collapse Be Fixed With Plastic Surgery?

by Dr De Silva||The Centre London

Your nasal valve area is crucial to breathing, so a collapsed one can cause breathing difficulties. Nasal valve collapse causes the nose to become narrower. It usually occurs along with sinusitis and chronic rhinosinusitis. It can lead to difficulty breathing through the nose and other symptoms such as postnasal drip, loss of smell, and difficulty. Thankfully, nasal valve collapse can be treated with nasal valve surgery. But how exactly does this work? In this article, I will talk about nasal surgery, the causes of internal nasal valve collapse, and its symptoms. I will also talk about nasal surgery preparation and recovery. How Do You Fix a Collapsed Nasal Valve? You can fix a collapsed nasal valve with surgery. The same treatment applies if your nasal airway gets compromised because of nasal obstruction. The procedure is performed by a rhinoplasty surgeon like me, Dr. Julian De Silva. First, I will make an incision in your nose and lift the skin to expose the cartilage underneath. I will then trim away any excess cartilage or bone to create more space for your nostrils. This will help prevent the collapse from reoccurring over time by allowing them to open more easily when you breathe through your nose. In some cases, it may be necessary for you to have additional procedures done at the same time as repairing a collapsed nasal valve. For example, if your septum is crooked or asymmetrical due to having been broken before, this issue should also be addressed during surgery so that both problems are fixed at once instead of having them exist separately during recovery periods. Moreover, nasal surgery can be done along with other procedures such as eyebrow lift, deep plane facelift, ear cartilage graft, facial plastic surgery, and blepharoplasty. What Causes a Nasal Valve Collapse? Peer reviewed studies state that many factors can cause collapsed valves. If the valve is unable to close properly, you will experience a loss of airflow through your nostrils. Infections, surgical damage, or trauma to the nose can also lead to collapsed valves. Additionally, certain diseases, including sinusitis or facial trauma, can cause the opposite problem: an over-opened nasal valve that allows too much air into your sinuses and lungs. Surgery can also help if you have an over-opened nasal valve because of age-related degeneration. Some people opt for surgery when they want cosmetic and medical improvement (e.g. fixing the nasal airway). This type of surgery does carry risks, so please make sure you discuss these carefully with your surgeon before deciding whether it is right for you. How Do You Know if Your Nasal Valve Collapsed? Here’s what usually occurs if your nasal valve collapsed: Snoring If you snore loudly and often, your nasal valve might have collapsed. The soft tissue in the back of the nose can also become swollen and block airflow through it during sleep. Sleep Apnea This condition occurs when breathing stops for short periods during sleep—and this can cause serious health problems down the line as well as poor quality of sleep. Difficulty Breathing If you have a collapsed nasal valve, you will find it hard to breathe. Headaches The symptoms of headaches include pain or pressure inside the head (including temples), sensitivity to light or sound, blurred vision, and nausea/vomiting with head movement. It’s possible that these headaches are linked to a collapsed nasal valve because they may be caused by increased cranial pressure. This happens because of insufficient airflow through an obstructed nasal passage and nasal airflow. Can Nasal Valve Collapse Heal on Its Own? Only a proper nasal septum surgery can treat the collapsed valve area. No, nasal valve collapse can’t heal on its own. Only proper treatment can heal internal nasal valve collapse and external nasal valve collapse. If you are having trouble breathing through your nose or if your symptoms worsen over time, it’s best to see a doctor as soon as possible. Remember, only a specialist can diagnose nasal valve collapse. Nasal Valve Collapse and Treatment The nasal valve is the narrow space at the top of your nose where mucus exits from your nostrils to drain into your throat. When you breathe in through your mouth, this sphincter opens to allow air to pass into the lower portion of your nasal cavity. When you exhale, it closes again to keep air from escaping through the nose. When deviated septa cause obstruction and block airflow through one or both nostrils, bleeding or swelling inside the nose occurs. As a result, many people who have undergone corrective surgery for deviated septum experience some degree of postoperative swelling for several weeks after their procedure. However, a collapsed nasal valve is different because it occurs when one or more muscles that support either side of that sphincter become weakened or damaged due to injury. This allows mucus buildup within certain areas of your sinuses instead of allowing natural drainage through normal pathways. Hence, it’s important to get it treated not only because its effects on the nasal valve area are unpleasant but also potentially dangerous. Infections caused by resulting inflammation can lead to worse downstream conditions such as further external nasal valve damage and blood clots forming under artery walls and upper lateral cartilage. Causes and Treatment of Nasal Valve Collapse Trauma, a botched surgery, and deviated septa cause a collapsed valve area. Here are the common causes of the nasal collapse and their corresponding treatment: Nasal Valve Collapse Caused by Trauma Injuries are one of the most common causes of the collapse of the nasal valve. As a result of this, the central columella, which is the cartilage that forms in the nose’s center, will be pushed to one side. This also causes the airway to become narrower, which makes it difficult to breathe. Nasal Valve Collapse Caused by Nose Surgery When you breathe in, your external valves may get constricted if you have weak cartilage at the tip of your nose or if they are oriented in an upward direction. If you’ve had a rhinoplasty in the past, it’s possible that the lower lateral cartilages were partially removed during the procedure, which will also make the exterior valves less strong. An expansion of the skin and cartilage in the space between your nostril can lead to a narrow external valve. Nasal Valve Collapse Caused by Deviated Septum If the upper lateral cartilages of the internal valves are weak or very narrow, this can cause the valves to collapse when inward breathing is performed. Any deviation of the septum in the region of the internal valve that occurs toward the valve itself will also result in a constriction of the valve. Nasal valve collapse due to deviated septum can be treated through surgery. Signs of Nasal Valve Collapse? Difficulty breathing Runny nose Nasal congestion Snoring Sleep apnea Headaches, including migraines What Does Valve Collapse Look Like? A doctor can prescribe pain medication to manage the same symptoms as above. If you can’t breathe properly through your nose and/or have a stuffy nose that does not respond to a nasal valve dilator or over-the-counter steroid nasal sprays, you may have nasal valve collapse. External valve collapse becomes apparent when you breathe in and the nostril on either or both side closes on itself. Internal valve collapse, on the other hand, is less apparent on the outside. However, the upper middle portion of the nose on either side looks narrow as you breathe in. Preparation for Nasal Valve Surgery Before getting the treatment, you must know what to expect and how to prepare for your procedure. As a general rule, you should not eat or drink anything for six hours before surgery. If you are taking any medications that thin the blood, you should stop taking them at least three days beforehand. You should also stop taking antihistamines at least 24 hours before the nose surgery because they can increase swelling in your nose. Finally, if you have a cold or allergy symptoms such as congestion or a stuffy nose, it’s best not to have surgery until they have gone away. This will help ensure that there is plenty of room inside your nasal passages during recovery from surgery on the nasal valve area. Are There Additional Ways to Fix the Valves? If your nasal valve collapse is causing you problems, there are a few other treatments that you can try. These include: Use steroid sprays and creams. Steroid sprays, creams, and pills are often used to help the nose heal from injury or surgery. These treatments help reduce inflammation in your nasal tissue and may help your nasal valve return to its normal position. Try a nasal valve dilator. A nasal valve dilator is used to decrease nasal airflow resistance. By reducing nasal resistance, it lowers the work of breathing. As a result, the oxygen supply to the body increases. Get nasal surgery. If other treatment options haven’t worked for you, then plastic surgery may be an option for restoring the structure of your nose so that it functions properly again. Surgery is also the only permanent solution to nasal valve collapse. After Surgery and Recovery After surgery, you can expect a recovery period of four to six weeks. You will be unable to exercise or play contact sports. You should also avoid alcohol and smoking. Additionally, you should avoid caffeinated drinks and spicy foods during recovery as well. If your condition worsens after surgery, you must follow up with your doctor immediately. If left untreated or ignored for too long, nasal valve collapse may lead to serious health problems such as infections and sleep apnea. Visit Dr. Julian de Silva – Rhinoplasty, London If you are experiencing nasal valve collapse, then seek out a specialist who understands individual nasal anatomy including your nasal valves. You should also choose someone who understands nasal breathing and conceals scar tissue well. How Is a Cheek Lift Performed?

by Dr De Silva||The Centre London

Mid facelifts are procedures that put your cheek tissues back to their natural position. A cheek lift surgery is also known as a mid face lift. This procedure addresses one of the earliest signs of ageing, which is sagging cheeks. It also deals with the sagging found around the cheeks. But how exactly is a cheek lift surgery performed? In this article, I will discuss how much the lift usually costs and how it is usually performed. I will also answer commonly asked questions about the treatment. How much does a cheek lift cost? The cost of this surgical treatment for the cheek area depends on many factors. Depending on the location and the cosmetic surgeon in the UK, a cheek lift can cost £5,000 to £10,000. However, this is just a range. The actual cost depends on a lot of factors including your needs, goals, and the assessment of your doctor. It also depends on the type of facility used and post-care medications that you may need. To know the exact cost of the cheek lift, consult a facial plastic surgeon first. You may book a consultation with Dr. Julian De Silva here. You also have to take note that a cheek lift is a cosmetic treatment, so it’s not usually covered by insurance. This means that you have to pay out of your pocket. On the bright side, this procedure helps gain your confidence and improve your performance especially if you are in the entertainment business. Hence, a cheek lift it’s an investment that will give you a lot of benefits in the long run. How long does cheek lift last? The treatment can lift soft tissue for a decade or more. How long a cheek lift lasts depends on many factors. For one, it depends on how you maintain the results after the surgery. It also depends on your lifestyle and other health habits. For instance, if you are a generally healthy person and have a great skincare routine, the results of a cheek lift might last longer. In general, the results of a cheek lift can last for 10 years or more. In many of my patients, cheek lift results can last for over 10 years. Some of them enjoy the results for up to a lifetime, specifically those who had cheek lift surgery later in life. If you want the results to last longer, there are some things you can do. For one, you have to take care of your health. People who are healthy inside usually have healthy skin. Second, you need to have a proper skincare routine. You have to use the right products that will help you maintain the results of the cheek lift. Lastly, you need to sleep well and avoid stress. Stress can show up in your skin and this might affect the longevity of your cheek lift results. What is a cheek lift? This outpatient procedure deals with mid face sagging and restores your youthful contour. For most patients, a traditional face lift cannot totally treat the upper cheek of the face, which frequently flattens, sags, and lengthens with age. This is where a mid facelift comes in. By elevating the fat pads in the cheeks (also known as the malar fat pads), cheek lift surgery provides fullness to your cheeks and eyes. This results in a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. Moreover, the results of a mid facelift are more permanent than the results of non-surgical treatments such as cheek fillers. In particular, a cheek lift reduces sagging on your cheeks. It also smoothens your nasolabial folds (also known as smile lines) on the sides of your mouth by removing excess skin. Adjusting the soft tissue of your cheeks to a higher position can also help fight the hollowing below your lower eyelid, which is another sign of the ageing process. A cheek lift is frequently done with other facial cosmetic surgical procedures, such as blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery, a neck lift, a brow and forehead lift, or rhinoplasty. When done all together, these cosmetic procedures offer full facial rejuvenation. As a result, you will look more refreshed and younger. You can also enjoy the results of this full facial rejuvenation for a decade or more. Because fat loss contributes a lot to midface ageing, an endotine midface lift is also frequently combined with cheek augmentation (via cheek fillers or cheek implants) or fat transfer to add volume. Another benefit of an endotine midface lift or cheek lift is that you can recover faster from the procedure compared to a traditional facelift. As you may well know, a checklist or midface lift is a surgical procedure. Hence, you should make sure that you consult reputable and experienced plastic surgeons like me, Dr. Julian De Silva. Doing so minimises the risk associated with the cosmetic procedure and ensures that you get the results you want. Doing so minimises the risk associated with the cosmetic procedure and ensures that you achieve the results you want. Can you get your cheeks lifted via a midface lift? This procedure is different from a traditional face lift. Yes, you can get your cheeks lifted. You can do this via midface lift surgery. During the side procedure, the cosmetic surgeon raises your cheek tissues back up where they’re supposed to be. By doing this, the tissues stay in place. The process makes your skin smoother and gives you a more refreshed appearance. When combined with a lower eyelid lift, the cosmetic surgeon removes the loose skin in the lower eyelid first and the bulging fat. Then, the procedure raises your cheek tissues higher using the same incision used for the eyelid lift. Moreover, during a cheek lift, fat it’s not removed that much. Instead, your cheek tissues are repositioned. By doing this, the line between your cheek and your lower eyelid decreases or goes away. A checklist procedure is usually an outpatient one. At last for approximately three hours. However, the duration will go longer if a cheek lift is done with other cosmetic procedures. Cheek Lift Surgery: What You Need to Know This treatment can be done with other procedures like eyelid surgery. If you see your cheeks are beginning to sag slightly, you can consider getting a cheek lift. This facial cosmetic treatment enhances the look of your saggy cheeks and the areas below your lower eyelids. As time passes by, the structure of your face depletes. Its once youthful shape sags and changes position. This leads to a tired and old appearance. This is where a mid facelift comes in. The procedure is designed to restore your face’s original shape by restoring volume to your cheeks and decreasing the appearance of smile lines. Since this procedure is a surgical one, recovery usually takes between two and three weeks. However, patients can resume their regular activities after a week or so. During recovery, you must avoid any vigorous or strenuous physical activity for at least two weeks. You should also take all of the medication and follow the aftercare guidelines that I will give. Cheek and Midface Lift This treatment enhances drooping cheeks and restores cheek volume. Contrary to popular belief, a cheek and midface lift are not different from each other. The terms are used anonymously in the cosmetic surgery or plastic surgery industry. So, if someone says that they want to get a midface lift, it means that they are considering having a cheek lift. What are the pros and cons of a cheek lift procedure? A cheek lift is a minimally invasive option to combat the ageing process. Here are the pros and cons of a midface lift: Pros of a Mid Facelift Procedure 1.Minimal Downtime The treatment helps restore your youthful appearance with minimal downtime, which is shorter than recovering from a traditional facelift. 2.Long-Lasting Results The results last for 10 years or more. 3.Easy and Convenient A cheek lift is one of the fastest facial surgeries. It’s also one of the easiest to perform. 4.Fast Results Most patients can see results a week after the said plastic surgery. 5.Longer than Fillers The results of the said plastic surgery last longer than dermal fillers which usually last for a year. 6.Safe and Effective When performed by a qualified and licensed cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Julian De Silva, a cheek lift is safe and effective. 7.Fights Ageing The procedure combats one of the first signs of ageing, which is sagging cheeks. 8.Gives You Confidence A cheek lift gives you the confidence and self-esteem that you need. 9.Helps With Your Work The procedure helps with your career, especially if you are working in the entertainment industry. Cons of a Mid Facelift Procedure 1.Surgical Treatment The treatment requires you to go under the knife, which some patients don’t like. 2.Risks Involved As with other cosmetic surgical procedures, the treatment involves risks such as numbness, swelling, bruising, and temporary hair loss. 3.Quack Doctors Many affordable plastic surgeons offer cheek lifts because of the procedure’s popularity. However, treatments as such are usually not safe and ineffective. Tense, you must only work with an experienced and board-certified cosmetic surgeon. How to Get Rid of Jowls Permanently With Cosmetic Surgery

Decreased collagen production and hyaluronic acid levels cause jowls. As you become older, you tend to lose definition around your jawline. The supporting components that keep your features youthful, like elastin and collagen, begin to deplete. You might lose fat in the cheeks and temples and have excess or saggy skin. These lead to your chin and neck losing shape. On top of that, your skin becomes drier and thinner as you age. This makes it less robust and more susceptible to the forces of gravity. As a result, loose skin around your chin and jawline can form. This generates jowls that age your entire appearance. But how do you get rid of jowls? Can you permanently eliminate them? In this article, I will talk about how you can get rid of jowls and prevent future sagging skin. I will also answer the most common questions about jowls. Can You Reverse Sagging Skin and Jowls? Jowls are less pronounced in people who have thicker skin, but they become more noticeable as one age. Yes, you can reverse sagging jowls. While jowls are a natural sign of ageing, you can reverse them through many treatments. For one, injectable solutions such as dermal fillers are great for restoring your face volume. Ultrasonic treatments such as Ultherapy are also helpful for stimulating the creation of more collagen. This immediately lessens the sagging effect of jowls. Radiofrequency (RF) skin treatments can also recontour, smooth, tighten, and lift the skin on your jaw and chin areas. Each treatment has its own distinct advantages, and our professionals can assist you in selecting the best process for your specific skin needs. However, if you want a permanent fix for pronounced jowls, surgery performed by board-certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Julian De Silva, M.B.B.D, MD is the right way to go. Will Losing Weight Get Rid of Jowls and Saggy Skin? Unfortunately, weight loss isn’t the most effective way to eliminate frustrating jowls. Losing weight won’t help eliminate droopy jowls. In fact, for many, especially individuals with older skin, losing lots of weight might make the jowls stand out even more. That’s because weight loss can actually highlight them to begin with. However, according to some studies, facial exercises and exercise, in general, can help reduce the look and severity of droopy skin and jowls. They do this by improving the ability of the facial, jaw, and neck muscles to keep their form. The majority of prescribed exercises should be performed one after the other to ensure that the face muscles are exercised evenly. Each exercise should be held for 10 to 20 seconds before being released. The following are some common facial exercises that may help improve jowls: Yawning and opening the mouth as widely as possible, then gently shutting it without allowing the teeth to contact. Outward puckering of the lips This practice is most effective when performed laying down and drawing the sides of the lips downwards with the fingers. Blowing up the cheeks as far as possible. Chewing with the head slightly inclined up. Grinning as wide as possible, then tilting the head up and down gently. Tilting the head up and placing the lower lip on the top lip. Lying down flat, curving the neck in towards the chest, and pushing the tongue on the roof of the mouth. Humming while pressing the tongue on the roof of the mouth. Facial exercises are not statistically proven to treat jowls. However, all existing research on the effect of facial exercises on treating jowls is not enough to pull out statistical evidence. Hence, only a treatment plan that includes one or more procedures like jowl soft tissue reduction and plastic surgery ensures results. This should not stop you from exercising your body and facial muscles though. Exercise greatly improves various elements that contribute to your skin health. This may help lessen the age at which jowls form, as well as their severity. Any repetitive facial habits that evenly activate or stretch the face muscles without overusing them may also aid in the reduction of jowls. Jowls: Why It Happens and What You Can Do Bad lifestyle choices can cause jowls and saggy skin. Jowls are drooping or excess skin on the neck, directly below the jawline and chin. Almost everyone gets jowls as they become older, mainly because their skin loses elasticity. Several causes, including genetics, sun damage or UV rays, lifestyle factors, and lost volume can contribute to more prominent jowls. Though various variables are known to enhance the frequency and severity of jowls, age is the root reason. This is because the skin begins to lose some of the substances that help it maintain its form as it ages. These substances include fat and connective tissue proteins like elastin. The skin also becomes drier and thinner, making it more difficult to keep its shape. As the skin loses its elasticity and volume, it becomes more sensitive to gravity. Sagging skin around the lips and cheeks migrates to the chin and jawline, resulting in jowls and a sagging jawline. The following are risk factors for jowls: Sunburn history Excessive or chronic alcohol consumption Smoking Dehydration, whether chronic or severe Long-term or severe stress Diets deficient in antioxidants, good fats, and other vital elements Frowning, chewing gum, chatting on the phone, and other behaviors or expressions that use the cheek, mouth, and jaw muscles. Skin allergies A lack of skin hygiene Little to no physical activity Poor lifestyle choices How to Eliminate Jowls Fast: Treatment and Prevention A treatment plan for jowls can include more than one procedure. 1. Facelift and Neck Lift If you want to get rid of fat and tighten your face and neck, then a neck lift is for you. In most neck lifts, the incisions are made in front of and behind the ear, reaching into the hairline. In some circumstances, a complete neck lift and facelift may be necessary to enhance your look. This plastic surgery eliminates fat, makes your skin tight, enhances your cheek muscles, and repositions skin on the lower half of your face so that your neck and face look the same. While these procedures are promising, there are different type of facelift that can be tailored to your individual needs. For most patients a natural vertical lift, restoring the areas that have dropped to their original position is best (modified deep plane facelift), for some patients less is more (pony tail facelift, mini facelift). 2. Fat reduction & Chin Implant For younger patients with fullness under the neck and jaw line, another way to get rid of fuller neck is through fat reduction with or without a chin implant. During this treatment, the surgeon will use a microcannula to remove fat from your chin region. They will also restructure the skin and jawline to avoid sagging in the future. Combined with bringing the chin forward this can work well for younger patients with good skin elasticity. Fat reduction can also be done with radio frequency or laser therapy to ensure that your skin remains tight and smooth. Dr De Silva frequently tightens the neck muscle (platysma) to reduce seeing a band in the neck that commonly comes with age. Although this is a universal aspect of ageing these stitches can help hide this change. 3. Radiofrequency Jawline Tightening This technique tightens the skin around your neck and chin using heat and radiofrequency energy from a gadget. It may be repeated several times to guarantee that your skin remains tight. The recovery period is short, and the treatment may be completed in a single day. 4. Dermal Fillers Dermal fillers can help treat those stubborn jowls of yours. Dermal fillers are formed of a substance known as hyaluronic acid. In addition, dermal fillers are filler injections placed into the neck and chin to fill up jowls and make them appear less sagging. Some dermal jawline fillers also stimulate your body’s production of collagen, allowing you to keep your skin tight. Although most fillers are soft and made of a gel called hyaluronic acid. They can be mixed with a calcium filler that will give a stronger more defined and shaped jaw line. 5. Ultrasound Ultherapy is the use of ultrasonic therapy to encourage long-term collagen formation in the skin’s deep layers. It typically takes one session, and patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately following the operation. Several months following treatment, most patients report a continuous improvement in skin tightness and stiffness. This is a non-surgical treatment and often the results are relatively mild and conservative, not suitable for patients wanting marked change and the results are three to six months after receiving ultrasound therapy. 6. Radiotherapy Radiotherapy employs intense, radiating heat to promote collagen and elastin fibre bundles around 2 millimeters beneath the skin’s surface. As a result, the bundles recoil and the skin tightens. Radiotherapy also increases protein formation by deceiving the body into believing connective tissues are injured. For best outcomes, many patients need to repeat treatments a few times a year. Pelleve is the most commonly used brand name for jowl radiation. What Can I Do to Reduce My Risk? You can prevent jowls and reduce risk by avoiding smoking. Here are things you can do to reduce the risks associated with procedures involving the jowl area: Avoid smoking Cigarettes and other kinds of tobacco contain toxins that can harm your skin. Limit your exposure to the sun Before going out for the day, always apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on your face and neck. Make it a part of your morning routine to protect your skin from UV rays. Limit your screen time When using a computer or phone, try to maintain your head in a natural, comfortable position. Avoid bunching up or stretching out your neck skin. You may also safeguard your muscles by taking a 10-minute break for every hour spent on the computer. What if I Already Have Jowls? If you have jowls and a sagging chin area, know that you have many treatment options. There are various techniques for correcting drooping jowls or making them seem less saggy or droopy. Neck lifts, for example, can tighten your skin and make it appear less saggy. Non-surgical therapies such as thermage, lasers, and fillers can alter the collagen composition of your skin. To conceal empty regions around the jowls, fillers might be employed. When you go out, you can also disguise your jowls with clothes and cosmetics. What Causes Jowls? Jowls are caused by the same factors that cause wrinkles. Here are the common causes of jowls: 1. Loss of Elastin and Collagen The skin on your cheeks and the skin below your jaw loses a lot of elastin and collagen as time passes by. Collagen is a protein that builds up your body’s connective tissue. Elastin is another substance that gives your skin the ability to go back to its original form after being stretched. 2. Genetics Your genes can also influence whether you acquire jowls and how visible they become over time. For one, you are more prone to get jowls if either of your parents has them. If you have thin skin or a lack of collagen and elastin in your skin, you may develop jowls at a young age as well. Jowls can appear as early as your twenties or thirties. 3. Facial Expressions Making specific facial expressions often might stretch out your face or neck skin. 4. Sun exposure Overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation in sunlight might harm your skin. As a result, your skin may sag sooner. 5. Smoking Cigarette nicotine and other substances can harm your collagen and elastin levels. On top of that, smoking can cause your blood vessels to constrict. This reduces blood circulation and inhibits your skin from receiving essential nutrients such as vitamin A. 6. Using computers or phones Long durations of computer use or staring down at a smartphone can cause your neck area to lose its suppleness. The term “tech neck” refers to these jowls. What Are the Best Procedures for Jowls? The best treatment for jowls include a facelift and neck lift. The best procedures for sagging jowls are undoubtedly a neck lift and full facelift. For one, a neck lift and full facelift are permanent fixes. This means that you only have to get them once. In fact, many of my patients who get these procedures enjoy the results for a lifetime. What Can Help You Recover Faster After Facial Surgery?

by Dr De Silva||The Centre London

Certain measures facilitate faster recovery after facial surgery. Most of my patients want faster recovery after facial surgery and to get back to doing normal activities as soon as possible. Hence, I, Dr. Julian De Silva, have developed a range of treatments based on the latest scientific evidence to aid healing and recovery. A combination of treatments is often best indicated that is tailored to the specific facial surgery, including facelift, neck lift, blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty. In this article, we will talk about the treatments that help patients recover faster and the measures you can take for faster recovery after facial surgery. The two main aspects of healing are swelling and bruising, so most of these measures are focused on reducing these as soon as possible after plastic surgery. Treatments That Will Enhance Recovery How long one can recover from facial surgery varies. In general, I advise patients to take at least three weeks to rest before getting back to joining social events. However, some patients take longer. Given this, how long one recovers from facial surgery varies. Fortunately, certain treatments can help you recover faster after facial surgery. Here are the treatments for faster recovery after facial surgery: 1. Proper Rest and Time Proper rest helps you recover faster after facial surgery. I highly stress the importance of resting after facial surgery. It’s because, during sleep, your body does a lot of healing. Since your body does the majority of its healing while you’re asleep, it’s crucial that you take naps and sleep at least eight hours each night. In addition, when your body feels tired, it means that your body has some healing to do. Moreover, facial surgery isn’t just stressful on the day of the procedure. In fact, several patients struggle with emotional or psychological issues for weeks or months after the procedure. Most of these issues are related to the procedure they had, so they need a lot of rest. Proper rest and adequate time are needed for patients to heal mentally and accept the procedure they had. Hence, having two to three weeks of rest without any intense activities such as exercising will promote faster recovery from facial surgery. While many of my patients lead busy lives, my staff and I make sure that they take time to rest after getting surgery. 2. Oxygen Therapy Oxygen therapy helps with maintenance after facelift. In this treatment, individuals inhale pure oxygen within a specialised, pressurised chamber. Originally, hyperbaric oxygen therapy was designed to address aerobullosis or decompression sickness, a risk associated with scuba diving. Over time, this method has proven beneficial for severe infections, wounds that have difficulty healing due to conditions such as radiation injury or diabetes, and air bubbles in one’s bloodstream. Under the cosmetic realm, it’s frequently adopted to enhance recovery after facial surgeries. Inside the therapy chamber, the mechanism amplifies the air pressure to triple the normal amount. Consequently, our lungs can absorb significantly higher levels oxygen relative to usual circumstances. This additional oxygen in our bloodstream aids in fighting off bacteria and stimulates components such as stem cells and growth factors, all crucial for rapid healing. Our body tissues require ample oxygen to work properly. When they sustain damage, their oxygen demand increases. The treatment caters to this need, ensuring the bloodstream is rich in oxygen. Following multiple sessions, tissues enjoy sustained oxygen levels, persisting even when you’re done with the procedure. I, Dr. De Silva, offer this therapy to my patients consistently. Solid scientific research backs its efficacy in enhancing post-operative recovery. Moreover, it can also elevate one’s general well-being. 3. Light Therapy Light therapy can help facilitate faster recovery after facial surgery. Part of healing after surgery included a healing process (termed inflammation) this can be seen as areas of pink colouration or redness, which is your body’s natural healing mechanisms . Light therapy or LED therapy enhances recovery of the skin and healing as well as being as a treatment for the skin in its own right. LED (Light Emitting Diode) therapy uses light-emitting diodes for various medical and aesthetic purposes. People of all ages and skin tones can benefit from this type of light therapy, which has been around for some time. Additionally, it can be combined with other procedures, such as facials and radiofrequency treatment, without any adverse effects. The machine that I, Dr De Silva uses includes combined therapy (tri-wave therapy), which is a large machine the size a desk, which provided more powerful treatment than currently available in home devices. To enhance healing and recovery after surgery, I offer all of my patients complementary LED therapy. 4. Manual Lymphatic Drainage MLD helps reduce swelling after facial surgery. MLD or Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle form of massage that helps move lymphatic fluid out of swollen limbs. However, a traditional massage should not be confused with MLD. This treatment is specifically aimed at lymph vessels so that lymphatic fluid can flow freely. Your unaffected areas first get the treatment. As a result, the fluid moves out of the affected area. This decongests the said region. MLD also helps open the remaining functioning lymph collectors. The treatment then helps move the protein and fluid into them. In addition, MLD helps speed up lymph fluid flow through the lymphatics. More often than not, manual lymphatic drainage gets recommended as a treatment plan. This means that it can be combined with other forms of treatment. My clinic helps organise MLD for our patients to help reduce swelling caused by facial surgery faster. We have skilled specialists who we recommend our patients to see, alternatively there is a national database that can be used to find a specialist local to you. Each therapist is unique and there is a degree of personal customisation of MLD techniques. 5. Cold Therapy Cold therapy decreases swelling and discomfort after facial surgery. Cold therapy or cryotherapy is another treatment that facilitates faster recovery after facial surgery. It is similar to pressing an ice pack on a swollen knee or ankle or knee. By doing this, you are relieving pain with a modern (although basic) version of cool therapy. In particular, cold therapy can be applied in several ways such as using coolant sprays, ice packs, ice massage, ice baths, and whirlpools. When used to treat injuries at home, cold or cool therapy refers to remedies involving frozen peas or gel and ice packs left in the freezer until needed. Interestingly, this remains one of the most basic, yet time-tested remedies for manageing swelling and pain. Specifically speaking, cold therapy can reduce swelling, which is linked to pain. Hence, cold therapy can decrease one’s sensitivity to pain. Cold therapy can also work when one wants to manage swelling with pain, especially those around tendons and joints. Cool therapy acts to counter swelling, reduce bleeding, swelling and inflammations, by reducing the level of oxygen required by the damaged tissue, as well as helping eliminate harmful substances by activating lymph drainage, which serves to accelerate the regeneration of the tissue concerned. Science behind cooling therapy For years, the cold temperature has been known to provide people comfort, relieve them from pain, decrease swelling, and facilitate faster recovery after facial surgery. Hence, I invested in the latest technology to enhance recovery using a treatment that involves 24-hour cooling of your face after surgery so that you heal faster. 6. Regenerative Medicine (i.e. PRP Skin Rejuvenation Therapy) Regenerative medicine or PRP therapy helps with maintenance after facelift. What Is PRP Therapy (Platelet Rich Plasma)? PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy, harnesses the power of platelets from your own blood. These platelets are bursting with growth factors, little wonders that help wounds heal and tissues regenerate. Here’s how it works: a sample of your blood is taken and then spun in a centrifuge, a machine that concentrates the platelets. The resulting mix is the golden juice called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). One great thing about PRP? It kickstarts collagen production and ramps up blood flow in tissues, both heroes in the fight against ageing. This means it can freshen up your skin by encourageing the birth of new skin cells. You might’ve heard of athletes, like golfer Tiger Woods, turning to PRP. They use it to mend injuries quicker, relying on the body’s natural healing touch. It’s all about sparking the body’s repair and growth mechanisms. I, Dr. De Silva, am all about offering my patients the latest and best. That’s why I’ve embraced biotechnological treatments – they amplify the body’s natural healing prowess. And although the science of all this is still budding, I’ve made sure to equip my clinic with top-of-the-line PRP equipment. So, for some patients, I bring out the big guns – PRP and stem cell tech. How Will PRP Help Me? Many athletes swear by PRP for its knack to speed up recovery. Take Tiger Woods; there’s chatter that he’s had PRP injections ahead of major tournaments. Skin loses its bounce due to ageing. It can’t hold moisture well, lacks hyaluronic acid and has dwindling collagen. Enter PRP: using your own tissue, you’re giving your skin a facelift, quite literally with your blood. PRP therapy rejuvenates the skin. It’s like giving your skin a dose of vitality, revving up blood flow and firing up collagen production. The beauty? Results peak at around four to six weeks and outlast many other treatments. Plus, PRP can iron out wrinkles and tackle marks like acne scars. Pair it with other beauty routines, and you’re on track for radiant skin. Among the things PRP can fine-tune are: Recovery of soft tissue post-surgery or laser treatment Pores Skin feel and texture Laugh lines and tiny wrinkles How Do We Do PRP at the Centre? First, we’ll need a small blood sample. We’ll then put it through a high-tech process, concentrating those precious growth factors and platelet-rich plasma. The next step? Separating it all to get a growth factor concentrate and the PRP gold. This magic mixture is then gently introduced back into your skin, calling upon your body’s repair squad. At The Centre, we use micro-needling to deliver PRP into your skin. It’s non-invasive and complements the PRP treatment, making it a holistic therapy for your skin. Is Every PRP Treatment Created Equal? Most readily available PRP methods utilise a basic laboratory centrifuge. While it’s quick and handy, this approach often yields a lower-tier PRP. Simply put, subpar equipment generally leads to subpar PRP. I, Dr. De Silva, rely on top-notch equipment designed to produce top-notch PRP (with a concentration exceeding 1.5 million platelets/uL). Over my career, I’ve explored three different PRP technologies. Our current system takes roughly half an hour to prepare the PRP for application. This is then incorporated into a therapeutic method I’ve fine-tuned. I often blend PRP with other surgical procedures to enhance healing by harnessing the power of natural growth factors. This treatment helps to expedite skin and soft tissue recovery following injuries. Essentially, we’re tapping into your body’s innate healing powers. Any Potential Risks or Setbacks? Since platelet-rich plasma comes from your body, it’s tailor-made for you. In effect, we’re utilising your blood to rejuvenate your skin. This means allergic reactions and adverse effects to your platelet-rich plasma are virtually impossible. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) has been globally employed in countless procedures for over three decades, especially in areas like oral surgery, orthopaedics, and cardiac operations. However, technological strides in recent years have allowed for a higher calibre of PRP production. Prominent figures, such as Tiger Woods, have even turned to PRP to speed up their healing process after injuries. As per research on PRP’s safety, when administered by skilled hands, the treatment is safe with little to no complications. Side effects like minor redness or bruising at the injection site are typically fleeting, lasting just a few days. That said, some patients might face temporary side effects like redness, swelling, or mild bruising post-treatment. Infections are a rare occurrence, and to guard against them, we provide our patients with antibiotics. However, it’s paramount that the procedure happens at a CQC-approved facility, ensuring sterile conditions throughout the treatment. Rest assured, all procedures at The Centre unfold at our dedicated facial hub on Harley Street. Nutritional Supplements Nutritional supplements make recovery after facial surgery easier. Currently, we have introduced nutrition supplements to improve patient recovery. We are committed to only providing our patients quality products and information based on sound scientific results. I, Dr Julian De Silva, am continually modifying this list of supplements as science and technology evolves. Here are the benefits of taking nutritional supplements along with the specific supplements for each benefit: 1. Reduce Bruising Arnica montana Typically, arnica montana, also known as wolfsbane, is used to relieve pain caused by osteoarthritis. Arnica is commonly applied to manage post-surgical bruising, swelling, and bleeding. In addition, arnica montana is often used in drinks, sweets, baked goods, and other foods as a flavouring agent. Bromelain Following trauma and surgical procedures, bromelain reduces oedema, bruising, pain, and healing time. To increase absorption, it must be taken along with quercetin (included in the formula). 2. Stimulate Healing and Faster Recovery Collagen Peptides Collagen peptides are formed by breaking down full collagen proteins into smaller segments. When ingested, they seem to concentrate in your cartilage and skin. Some skin and joint issues may benefit from this. Furthermore, collagen peptides are employed in the treatment of aged skin and osteoarthritis. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) MSM is essential for elastin formation. It is crucial in repairing and remodeling connective tissues. Furthermore, MSM is a potent detoxifier. It has anti-inflammatory qualities as well. Nettle Leaf 2% Silica Powder Extract Silica (SiO2) is required for the production of connective tissues and collagen post-surgery. Other ingredients Cardus Marianus Cardus marianus is a homeopathic medicine traditionally used to treat hepatic problems. It’s also been used to treat high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Furthermore, it focuses on lymphatic drainage. Thiosinaminum Thiosinaminum is used to treat scarring. They are solvents for dissolving scar tissue, tumours, enlarged glands, lupus, strictures, and adhesions both externally and internally. L-Glutamine L-glutamine is an amino acid that is also known as glutamine. Amino acids are chemicals that help the human body produce protein for nutrition. They can be found in protein-rich foods originating from plants and animals. Protein is, therefore, a nutrient essential for good health. The most prevalent amino acid is L-glutamine. It increases accessible nitrogen, which helps repair damage and produce protein. 3. Support Healing and Recovery: Vitamin Supplements Vitamin C (As Calcium Ascorbate) Vitamin C is required for fibroblast cells to produce collagen. It’s also a powerful antioxidant. Furthermore, considerable scientific data shows that it aids healing and recovery. Vitamin B Complex Vitamin B complex is a vital anti-oxidant compound. The vitamin supports nutrient delivery through optimizing capillary dilation. Since patients may experience low moods after surgery, taking vitamin B6 and B12 can help them feel good. Vitamin A Vitamin A is required for epithelial tissue differentiation, development, and maintenance. In fact, less vitamin A equates to increased keratin release. This makes membranes rigid and messes with how they function. It is also involved in the regulation of normal cell growth. Natural Mixed Carotenoids To decrease oxidative stress to your DNA, natural mixed carotenoids are transformed into vitamin A. Vitamin C aids in the preservation of one’s tissue carotenoids. Citrus Bioflavonoids Citrus bioflavonoids aid in the reduction of edema and bruising. They are also required for the absorption of vitamin C. Furthermore, they work together to preserve and restore capillaries. Finally, they have anti-viral characteristics, which support your immune system. 4. Stimulate Immune System L-Lysine L-lysine is an essential amino acid. It aids in the cellular integration of collagen. Furthermore, L-lysine is a potent immune system enhancer. N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine Cysteine is found in the alpha-keratin component of fingernails, skin, and hair. It aids in the detoxification of toxic substances. Cysteine is also a precursor to glutathione, a powerful antioxidant with anti-ageing properties. This substance also promotes recovery after surgery and serious burns. It is most effective when combined with selenium. Zinc Gluconate Zinc gluconate is a potent immune booster. It is necessary for skin repair. Furthermore, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a zinc-dependent protein family that is involved in tissue remodeling and wound healing. It is essential for the creation of enzymes such as the potent superoxidant dismutase. 5. Reduce Discomfort and Pain Papain Papain is a well-known traditional pain, inflammation, and swelling therapy. It has also been used to treat infections, diarrhea, allergies, and to aid digestion. Moreover, it aids in the relief of pain, swelling (inflammation), and fluid retention following trauma and surgery. Magnesium Citrate Magnesium, in particular, can help with chronic pain by counteracting the relaxing effects of calcium on muscles and neurons. It acts as a stifling agent in overstimulated neural receptors. As a result, magnesium can assist to alleviate postoperative discomfort. Hypericum Perforatum Hypericum perforatum is a well-known treatment for shooting or jabbing pain, particularly in the presence of neurological impairment. It focuses on pain and discomfort following surgery. Additional Cream Arnica Cream (100 ml) Arnica cream is recommended for the treatment of mild injuries. It can be used both before and after playing sports. The gel swiftly penetrates deep into the tissue layers, offering a pleasant sensation of comfort. The cream can also be used to treat minor injuries. It protects inflamed tissue and reduces swelling caused by bruises, sprains, strains, tendonitis, and haematomas (not on the skin). Arnica cream can also be used for sports massages. The gel aids in the maintenance of correct muscle tone during physical exertion and facilitates recovery thereafter. To use this cream, apply a layer of gel several times a day to the affected area. Massage until the gel is fully absorbed. It is non-greasy and will not stain. The cream also contains no preservatives or dyes. 8. Patient Measures for Faster Recovery After Facial Surgery Having a healthy lifestyle helps facilitate faster recovery after facial surgery. Here’s what you can do to further facilitate faster recovery after facial surgery: ● Wear sun protection. Ultraviolet rays from the sun and other sources speed up facial ageing. They also contribute to more fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Hence, I advise you to protect your skin from the sun by applying sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day. ● Maintain a healthy lifestyle. I also suggest that you maintain a healthy lifestyle to speed up your recovery after facial surgery. For one, avoid smoking at all costs. Smoking decreases the oxygen delivered to your body. It also slows recovery down and makes your skin prone to scarring. In addition, healthy living means saying no to alcohol and eating a well-balanced diet during recovery. Getting enough nutrients and drinking plenty of water to maintain daily hydration have positive effects on your recovery and your general health. ● Avoid exercise for three weeks after surgery. Intense physical activity raises your blood pressure. Increased blood pressure makes bruising and swelling more intense. As a result, you need more time to recover from facial surgery. For this very reason, I recommend avoiding exercising and doing other intense physical activities for three weeks after surgery. ● Proper hydration helps you heal. Proper hydration helps facilitate faster recovery after facial surgery. Make sure you have plenty of water available and in arm’s reach. Drink plenty of water to keep your body’s natural healing mechanisms working. Drinking water will also flush out the remnants of the medication you are taking, so it’s a win-win situation. ● Have your surgeon’s number at all times and follow instructions. You must always have your surgeon’s contact number or email to clarify and confirm questions. After your surgery, your doctor may give you aftercare guidelines. Follow them closely. Your doctor may also recommend over-the-counter products to counteract the side effects of the surgery. Make sure to get all these products and use them as directed. Pre-Surgery Instructions for Faster Recovery After Facial Surgery What you do before the surgery is just as crucial as what you do after the surgery. Make sure to follow the pre-surgery guidelines I give. These guidelines include the following: Avoid medicines or herbal treatments with blood thinners. These include non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (e.g. ibuprofen), aspirin, vitamin E, and fish oils. You must avoid them for two weeks before and after surgery. Remember, blood thinners can result in increased bruising, swelling, and risk of bleeding after surgery. Make sure to take your prescription to a reputable pharmacy. Tell them to fill it at least a week before your surgery. You must do this to make sure you get all the medicine you need, in case the pharmacy doesn’t have them in stock. Usually, I prescribe three to four medications (depending on your procedure), which you need to take a day or two before your surgery. Please do not schedule any important social events, commitments, trips, and the like for three weeks after your surgery. Resting during this period is essential. If you don’t rest properly, you will likely suffer from increased swelling and a slower recovery period. Alcohol and caffeine-containing beverages are potent blood vessel dilators. Hence, they promote bruising, swelling, and bleeding in the target area. Given this, I strongly advise avoiding alcohol and caffeine intake for a minimum of one week before and after your surgery. If you are a daily consumer of alcohol, caffeinated beverages, or both, I recommend slowly reducing your intake to prevent headaches. Avoid Viagra and Viagra-like medications (Cialis) for two weeks before and one week after your surgery. Conclusion Physical and emotional healing are both required for faster recovery after facial surgery. If you follow the tips I gave above and take care of your mental health after your surgery, healing tends to be faster and my patients have a smoother recovery. My team and I will support you during your journey and recovery. We will do everything we can to help you recover as fast as possible. If you are looking for a world-class plastic surgeon who will take care of you before and after your surgery, book a consultation with Dr. Julian De Silva now.

Supermodel Bella Hadid’s Teen Rhinoplasty

by Dr De Silva||The Centre London

Victoria Secret’s top model Bella Hadid shared that she underwent nose surgery at the age of 14. The news of Bella Hadid’s teenage nose reshaping at such a young age caught the attention of many and validated the rumours surrounding her procedure. In this piece, we’ll delve into Bella Hadid’s decision to have a nose job as a teenager, the potential risks linked to the surgery, and UK guidelines on the matter. Plus, I’ll offer my thoughts on this surprising revelation about the model. Bella Hadid’s Vogue Confession On March 15, Vogue released its intimate interview with supermodel Bella Hadid. In the cover story, Hadid shared her experience on intimate topics such as manageing mental health issues and dealing with an eating disorder. What’s more noticeable is Bella Hadid’s teenage rhinoplasty confession. The 25-year old Victoria Secret supermodel who’s been featured in Tatler many times admitted that she had a nose job when she was 14. Was Bella Hadid Too Young For Teenage Rhinoplasty? When Is the Right Time for It? Teenage rhinoplasty is more complicated than adult rhinoplasty. Was supermodel Bella Hadid too young for the nose job? Those who are in great health can get a nose job at different points in their lives. However, patients are recommended not to get nose jobs until their noses are fully grown. Typically, this occurs at ages 14 and up for females. For males, this typically occurs at ages 15 and up. In addition, it’s best to get teenage rhinoplasty once the person stops growing in terms of height and shoe size. Rhinoplasty Regulation in the UK Due to the popularity of nose jobs, the UK government has released regulations related to it. In the UK, those aged 18 and up can get a nose job by themselves. However, the General Medical Council (GMC) states that teenagers below the age of 18 can get a nose job if it’s in their best interest. For instance, a teenager who’s bullied at school can get a nose job if they and their parents consent to it. Why Celebrities Deny Surgery Celebrities usually deny surgery because they are afraid of being judged by the public. Celebrities often get famous and successful, thanks to cosmetic surgery. In some cases, celebrities regret it. However, being completely honest about their transformations help the public see that cosmetic surgery is something not to be ashamed of, since it helps people increase their confidence and self-respect. Risks of Teenage Rhinoplasty Risks of teen rhinoplasty include safety and mental well-being. Here are the risks of teenage rhinoplasty: Safety Results Mental Well-Being Non-Surgical Treatments As an alternative, teenagers can get non-surgical rhinoplasty. As an alternative, teenagers who want to enhance their appearance without going under the knife can get non-surgical nose jobs instead. Dr. Julian De Silva’s Perspective Patients and their parents must carefully discuss teenage rhinoplasty. Understanding the procedure and ensuring it is the right choice for you or your child is crucial. You must also remember that improvement triumphs over perfection. Furthermore, patients must manage their expectations and parental support must be extended to them. As for me, Dr. Julian De Silva, one of the best rhinoplasty surgeons in the UK, I think that anyone who wishes to have a nose job must have the right reasons. They must also be mature enough and have the full support of their parents. In addition, I think it’s best for teenagers to have a nose job at the age of 16+. This makes the risk for complications extremely low. If you have any doubts, I suggest waiting until you turn 18 or over 20. Conclusion Do you have any other rhinoplasty questions for me? I’ll be glad to answer all of them. Book a consultation with me now and start your journey towards a safe, effective, and Golden-Ratio-based nose job.

It’s like sculpting the patient’s face in a way that suits them.

Blepharoplasty Surgery: Causes, Treatment, and Costs in the UK

Knowing how much does an eye bag surgery cost lets you think wisely about the treatment. Blepharoplasty or eye bag removal surgery is one of the most popular surgical cosmetic procedures in the UK. Knowing eye bag surgery cost helps you make an informed decision whether about the treatment. If you’ve been planning to enhance your appearance, you probably heard about blepharoplasty. You also likely wondered why people get it, how it goes, and how much does an eye bag surgery cost. I am here to address all of your questions. In this article, we will talk about the reasons why patients have blepharoplasty. I will also walk you through the procedure and discuss eye bag removal cost. Reasons Why People Get Blepharoplasty There are several reasons why patients go through blepharoplasty. 1. Eye Bags Popular belief says that lack of sleep causes eye bags. However, it’s not always the case. Most of the time, it’s not lack of sleep that causes eye bags. It’s the lower eyelid fat prolapse that usually causes eye bags. To put it simply, lower eyelid fat prolapse is a condition that occurs when the fat around the eye socket comes forward. This results in the fat protruding. This also makes the fat appear in the lower part of your eyelids. Your eye bags become bigger and more prominent when this happens. Thus, getting lifting eyelids will help reduce the appearance of your eye bags. Just make sure you’re a good candidate for eyelid surgery first. You can remove the excess fat under your eyes through surgery, making your eye bags become smaller and less visible as a result. In fact, surgery is the only way men can permanently remove bags under their eyes. 2. Dark Circles Just like its name, the dark circles describe the condition where dark skin appears under your eyes. Usually, they are linked with a lack of sleep. Sometimes, with bruising. However, neither of these situations mainly causes dark circles. Typically, the shadows cast by hollows under your eyes cause dark circles. As blood pools under your eyes, they become even more visible. Additionally, dark circles are also linked with eye bags. The tissue around your eyes becomes weak as you age. Because of this, fat moves further into the front part of your under-eye. Also, fluid can also accumulate under your eyes. Together, these make your eyes puffier. They can also cause aggravation or dark circles under the eyes. The shadows cast by the hollows under your eyes can be reduced through surgery eye bags. The dark circles under your eyes will become less visible as a result. 3. Crow’s Feet An eye bag surgery cost involves getting rid of crow’s feet. Another common issue that patients cosmetically solve through blepharoplasty is crow’s feet. Crow’s feet can be described as the fine lines and wrinkles spreading from the outer corners of your eyes. A lot of old people suffer from crow’s feet as a sign of ageing. Additionally, crow’s feet can be caused by repeated facial movements. Repeated facial movements make crow’s feet inevitable along with the other signs of ageing. Moreover, the skin becomes thinner over time. It could also become less elastic, and weaker. Hence, crow’s feet develop. Thus, crow’s feet are a common problem among older people. Your doctor can make your skin tighter and stronger through blepharoplasty. This will result in your crow’s feet becoming less visible. 4. Hooded Eyelids Hooded eyes are a common condition of the eyes due to ageing. This condition involves tiny flaps of excess skin. These tiny flaps of skin can be found beneath each eyebrow. The flap of skin conceals the natural crease of the eyelid. Therefore, the eye looks like it’s hooded. Hooded eyes can be a disturbance to one’s line of sight. Furthermore, hooded eyes can possibly block your vision. The excess skin hangs on your eyelids. Therefore, it causes issues with your vision. Hooded eyes can also affect your appearance. They cover the natural crease of your eyelid. Thus, they make your eyes appear smaller. Hooded eyes make you look tired and grumpy as well. While non-surgical eyelift sounds promising, it cannot treat all types of hooded eyes cases. The only treatment that can permanently fix the problem would be blepharoplasty or hooded eye surgery. Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty can treat all cases that involve hooded eyes. A cosmetic surgeon can manipulate your skin and the underlying muscles on your skin to get rid of your hooded eyes. Blepharoplasty also produces results permanent results. The results of blepharoplasty can last up to a lifetime compared with its non-surgical counterparts. 5. Tired and Grumpy Appearance How people see you can be affected because of a tired appearance. Some people had their jobs compromised because their subordinates thought that they were unapproachable. Conditions such as eye bags, dark circles, and crow’s feet can make you look tired and grumpy. In order to make yourself appear alert, you have to get rid of them. Eye surgery can help you restore your appearance. You can reverse the signs of ageing through eye surgery. As a result, you will look more alert, approachable, and cheerful. 6. Vision Obstruction An eye bag surgery cost involves solving vision obstruction. One of the most common medical issues patients solves through eyelid surgery is the obstruction of their vision. Usually, eye problems cause vision problems. These include the likes of astigmatism. However, eye problems can also be aggravated sometimes by excess skin on the upper eyelids. Additionally, your vision might be affected by the excess skin obstructing it. Your vision might be obscured due to loose or sagging skin in the upper eyelid. It can droop so much and can interfere with your vision. Doing daily activities may become difficult for you once this happens. An everyday activity such as driving can become dangerous for you, as your sight gets blocked by the excess skin. Your surgeon can remove excess skin through eyelid surgery. Whether it obstructs your vision or aggravates vision impairment, eyelid surgery can fix your problem. Your vision will become clear as a result of the treatment. 7. Irritation Other than obstructing your vision, excess skin on the eyelids can also cause your eyes to be itchy. If you experience this, you will rub your eyes together when they become itchy. Irritation can occur when you rub your eyes with excess skin. Sometimes red, dry, and even puffy eyelids characterise this condition. Excess skin irritates your skin further if you wear glasses or contact lenses. Wearing your glasses or contact lenses for long periods of time can become difficult as well. Eyelid suregry can remove excess skin that causes irritation. You can avoid irritating your eyes as a result of the procedure. Therefore, will become easier for you to wear glasses or contact lenses becomes as well. Before Blepharoplasty An eye bag surgery cost typically involves an extensive pre-surgery consultation with Dr. Julian De Silva. You need to talk to a cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Julian De Silva who specialises in eyelid surgery before you undergo the procedure. You can book a consultation with him here. During the consultation, your medical history and current state will be discussed. Specifically, I will ask you about any previous surgeries you received, if there were any. Also, I will ask about your current health condition. This includes any medications that you take. We will also talk about your lifestyle during the consultation. If applicable, I will ask you to disclose your alcohol and cigarette usage. After the discussion of your medical history, your goals and expectation will also be discussed. You have to openly discuss your goals and expectations. I will then explain whether blepharoplasty surgery treatment suits you or not. This depends on your medical history. Also, I might suggest complementary procedures along with your blepharoplasty. This includes facelift and brow & forehead lift. If you agree with what we discussed, you can set an appointment for your blepharoplasty. You need to make sure that the appointment you set suits your schedule best. During Blepharoplasty An eye bag surgery cost involves the use of my tools, facility, and sedation anesthesia. The points of the incision will be marked prior to the hooded eye surgery. I will also administer sedation anesthesia during eyelid surgery. I use this type of anaesthesia because it’s safer and lets you recover quickly compared to general anesthesia. The excess skin or fat will be removed by the doctor during the procedure. Once done, your incisions will be stitched up. After Blepharoplasty An eye bag surgery cost involves the aftercare support of my team. You have to stay for some time in the facility after the surgery. The staff has to monitor you for any complications. Usually, hooded eye surgery does not require an overnight stay. This means that you can go home after you’re cleared from any complications. Also, you need to make sure someone will take you home after the surgery. After the eyelid surgery, your vision won’t be normal. Thus, you must not drive. You may also temporarily experience blurred vision after the surgery. Other side effects might include sensitivity, numbing of eyelids, swelling, and bruising. However, the side effects are just temporary and will soon subside. The following post-operative care guidelines need to be followed: Iced gauze pads should be applied to the eyes for the first 48 hours. This also needs to be applied to the cheek. In order to minimize swelling and discoloration, the gauze pads must be dipped in ice water and wrung out before applying it to the areas of concern. In order to minimize swelling, you need to keep your head elevated. A recliner will work well. However, adding an extra pillow to your bed should be adequate. Two to three weeks after the hooded eye surgery, you may resume wearing contact lenses. You should refrain from doing any extreme physical activity. This includes athletic activities. However, activities like light walking may be resumed three days after the surgery. Other activities like aerobic exercise, weight training, heavy lifting, and straining can be resumed gradually, three weeks after the surgery. Sun exposure, sun lamps, or tanning beds should be avoided for at least six weeks after surgery. This is because heat can cause your face to swell. I recommend you to use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. If your eyes show some swelling, do not be concerned. Usually, this will be resolved within two weeks after the surgery. Only take the medications prescribed for you. Wearing of makeup may be resumed seven to ten days post-surgery. Eye Bag Surgery Cost An eye bag surgery cost involves many factors. You must take note that several factors contribute to the cost of your surgery. For one, you should factor in the cost of any test, pre-surgery consultation, and follow-up consultation. Since every surgery eye bags is unique, eye lift cost UK varies. Also, the eye lift cost UK will be determined by the surgeon’s fee. In the UK, eye bag surgery cost can range between £2,000 and £6,000. Depending on the factors mentioned above, eye lift cost UK can either increase or decrease. Causes of Eye Bags There are many reasons why eye bags appear. Ageing is the most common. Contrary to popular belief, ageing is not the only reason why eye bags appear and become more noticeable. Here are the causes of eye bags. 1. Ageing Ageing is the most common cause of eye bags. As you age, the skin under your eyes becomes less elastic and thinner. The bony foundation under your eyes changes as well, allowing fat to go forward. Tear troughs, the hollow part under your eyes, also become deeper and more noticeable. The same thing happens to under eye wrinkles. As a result, you develop eye bags. The fat sinks further, making your under eye look swollen. The older you get, the bigger your eye bags get. 2. Heredity It’s also possible for you to inherit eye bags. Some families have more prominent eye bags than others. Hence, if eye bags run in your family, you will probably have them, too. Heredity can also contribute to a condition called periorbital hyperpigmentation. This condition makes you predisposed to having dark circles. As you may well know, dark circles emphasise the presence of eye bags. Moreover, some people are genetically prone to subluxation, which is the moving of fat under the eyeball to the front of the eye. 3. Ethnicity Eye bags are more noticeable in people who have pale skin. It’s because a fair complexion cannot hide eye bags. Hence, when people with pale skin develop eye bags, they become prominent. For this reason, Caucasians tend to have deeper, more noticeable eye bags compared to African Americans. On the other hand, African Americans produce more pigment around the eye area. This can cause general darkening on the lids and under the eyes. 4. Smoking Free radicals weaken the supporting structures in our skin, leading to looseness and puffiness. Moreover, certain habits drain essential nutrients required for skin repair and promote dehydration, accentuating under-eye shadows and puffiness. Another factor to consider is the nicotine found in cigarettes, which can interfere with restful sleep. 5. Sleep Patterns Your resting patterns can impact the appearance of your eyes. An example is noticing more pronounced puffiness after extended wakefulness. Specifically, insufficient rest can lead to fluid accumulation beneath your eyes, making them appear puffier. A lack of adequate sleep can also result in a lackluster skin tone, highlighting darker areas beneath your skin. 6. Sun Exposure Overindulging in sunlight can trigger the body to produce an excess of a specific pigment. Post-procedure, sometimes a protective covering might be placed either on the entire eye area or just the treated spot. 7. Stress When you are stressed, blood circulation in your eye area slows down. This allows blood to pool there. Specifically, your thin blood vessels leak and stretch. The blood spreads out under the skin and oxidises. This process leads to puffy eye bags and a dark purple hue over them. In addition, more blood is directed away from your face, making it look pasty. Consequently, your eye bags become more visible. 8. Poor Diet A poor diet can lead to eye bags as well. To begin with, a diet mostly composed of sugar can cause inflammation. Since the skin under your eyes is thinner compared to other body parts, inflammation can aggravate your eye bags. Salty food including canned goods can also make your eye bags swell. It’s because they have a lot of sodium in them. Excessive sodium can make you retain water, which aggravates your eye bags. 9. Allergies When you experience allergies, your body releases histamine in response to it. Histamine then causes symptoms including redness, itchiness, and puffy eyes. It also makes your blood vessels dilate and become more visible. In addition, allergies urge you to scratch and rub the skin around your eyes. This can worsen your dark circles and make your eye bags more prominent. 10. Dehydration Not drinking enough water each day can worsen your eye bags. When your body doesn’t receive enough water, the skin under your eyes starts to look dull. Your eyes become sunken as well. Drinking alcohol also dehydrates your body. Hence, you might want to watch out how much and how often you drink. More Visible Blood Vessels A thinner under-eye skin, a tear trough, accentuates your bags. This skin is naturally thinner than most skin on our body. The thinning process is attributed to ageing. It becomes more translucent with age, showing more blood vessels and producing a puffy effect under your eyes. Dermatitis and Skin Irritation People living with atopic dermatitis (AD) suffer from swollen and inflamed eyelids and under-eyes. This common type of eczema develops around the eyelids and the eye area, causing skin irritation. As a result, people with AD have under eye wrinkles and puffiness and should pay more attention to potential eye problems down the road. Disadvantages of Having Eye Bags Eye bags cause problems that can be solved through under eye bag removal. Most people hate having eye bags for many reasons. Here they are. 1. Eye bags make you look tired. Having prominent eye bags makes you look tired all the time, even if you are not actually tired. If you have noticeable eye bags, people around you will often say that you look tired. Some of them might say that you lack sleep, despite sleeping a lot the night before. 2. Eye bags can stress you out. What others say about our appearance can bring us down. If someone says that you look unpleasant because of your eye bags, you might get hurt. As a result, you’ll keep thinking about your flaws, including your eye bags. The constant thought of your flaws can stress you out. If going through eye bags removal surgery helps reduce your stress levels, go for it. 3. Eye bags can be a permanent problem. Since most eye bags are caused by ageing and genetics. If not dealt with, they will be a permanent problem. Eye cream and makeup, while somehow effective, are not permanent solutions to eye bags. Cream can slightly lighten your eye bags, but they will still be there. Makeup can conceal them, but they will remain. Remember, a permanent problem needs a permanent solution. 4. Eye bags affect your self-confidence. Looking at the mirror every day and seeing those prominent eye bags can affect your self-confidence. If your career is mainly based on your appearance (e.g acting, modelling), eye bags affect your confidence to do your job. As your self-confidence decreases, so does other people’s confidence in you. It’s because your confidence determines how other people see you. What You Should Know Before Blepharoplasty Surgery Blepharoplasty, which can be done on the lower and upper eyelids, helps restore your eyes’ youthful appearance. Eyelids stretch and sag due to our body’s natural ageing process. The muscles underneath your eyelids can also weaken over time. This is where blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery comes in. In this article, I’ll talk about the essential information you need to know about the said surgery. I’ll also answer the questions most patients ask about blepharoplasty. What Is Blepharoplasty Surgery? Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can be performed for cosmetic or functional purposes. Excessive fat and skin may come together on the top and beneath your eyelids. They can lead to sagging upper lids, drooping brows, and prominent eyebags. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery removes excess skin from your eyelids. In addition, significantly drooping skin around your eyes can mess with your vision, specifically in the top and outer regions. These vision problems can be eliminated or decreased with blepharoplasty, giving you a fresher and younger look. Why Is Blepharoplasty Done? Eyelid surgery helps fix facial skin concerns around the eyes that may cause blurred vision or a tired look. Blepharoplasty addresses multiple skin concerns in the eye area. It helps fix droopy eyelids, remove excess skin in the eye region, and under eye bag removal. While the procedure can be cosmetic in nature, it also addresses functional or eyesight concerns. Sagging skin in the upper eyelids can obstruct eyesight and affect peripheral vision. Removing the excess skin in the treatment area can dramatically improve vision. The treatment can also be done with other surgical procedures. These include treatments like the brow and forehead lift, facelift, and neck lift. Who Is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty? Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) candidates can enjoy a more rejuvenated, refreshed look after the treatment. Patients in excellent physical conditions who do not have visual impairments can undergo eyelid surgery. Middle-aged and older patients can opt for the treatment to address skin issues in the eye area. Young patients with early signs of ageing can be suitable candidates for eyelid surgery. Patients undergo eyelid surgery for several reasons. Sagging skin that creates unwanted folds and creases in the upper eyelids and lower eyelids can be reduced by this treatment. Puffiness in the upper eyelids can be diminished by removing excessive fat and skin in the treatment area. The procedure also helps in removing eye bags that cause dark circles. In general, patients with realistic and achievable aesthetic goals can be excellent candidates for eyelid surgery. Does Blepharoplasty Get Rid of Excess Skin? Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) addresses multiple skin concerns in the eye area. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery gets rid of excess skin from both the upper eyelids and lower eyelids. This treatment eliminates loose fat and skin around the eye area for dramatic cosmetic improvements. Patients look younger and well-rested after the new procedure for under eye bags. Moreover, this type of plastic surgery can also address medical concerns. Excessive fat and skin in the eyelids can impair vision. Eyelid surgery effectively removes saggy skin on your upper eyelid for vision improvements. How Long Does It Take To Recover From Blepharoplasty? The recovery process varies depending on the specific techniques used and the individual patient. Most people can return to work and other normal activities within a week after the cosmetic surgery. However, you must not do any strenuous activities after the surgery because it can strain you, tear your stitches, and impair your body from recovering well. Before and After Examples Here are some before and after pictures of my patients after blepharoplasty: After the surgery, the patient’s eyes looked gentler and more awake. He was extremely pleased with the results and no longer had to worry about looking tired and angry. The after photo shows significantly fewer eye bags and a smoothened contour between his eyelids and cheeks. The patient’s eyes looked fresher and more awake after the procedure. She was extremely happy with the natural results. At What Age Should You Get a Blepharoplasty? Blepharoplasty is most commonly performed on people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. It’s because the lower and upper eyelids tend to become loose and saggy as we age, and blepharoplasty can help enhance the appearance of the eyelids. However, blepharoplasty is not always age-dependent. Some individuals may want to have this procedure at an earlier age if their family has a line of sagging or drooping eyelids or if they have excessive fat and skin on their eyelids leading to functional issues like blurry vision or painful blinking. How Should I Prepare for Blepharoplasty Treatment? Here are the steps you can take to prepare for the blepharoplasty procedure: Consult with qualified plastic surgeons. Have a consultation with an experienced and qualified plastic surgeon. Your cosmetic surgeon will take note of your needs and help you determine the best treatment to achieve your aesthetic goals. Stop smoking. Do not smoke, uner any circumstances, for at least a month before your eyelid surgery. Smoking can mess with how your body heals itself and raise the risk of complications like infections and swelling. Avoid certain pills. Your eyelid surgeon may ask you to stop taking certain medicine including blood thinners, before the treatment to reduce significant bleeding during the operation. How Do I Wash After Blepharoplasty? Your surgeon will provide specific instructions on caring for the treated area and when it is safe to wash your face. You’ll receive detailed guidelines from your healthcare professional regarding post-procedure care. Typically, it’s advisable to keep the treated zone dry for an initial period of 24 to 48 hours. Subsequently, it can be cautiously cleaned with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Refrain from any vigorous actions during cleaning. It’s also crucial to steer clear of cosmetics near the treated region for a specified duration to avoid potential complications. Does the Procedure Leave Marks or Scars Thankfully, the strategic placements of cuts in natural skin folds render them nearly invisible post-healing. The unique properties of the skin in that area also aid in speedy recovery and reduced visibility of any potential marks. Are There Any Risks Involved? Some concerns to be aware of after the procedure include: Discoloration: Some might notice color changes or bruising. Puffiness: The area around the eyes might appear puffy post-procedure. Markings: While the procedure requires incisions, any resulting markings usually fade over time and are usually not noticeable. Dryness: Occasionally, individuals might experience a dry sensation, which can be managed with suitable solutions. Everything You Need to Know About Eyelid Surgery Recovery The recovery process can be tricky, but following your doctor’s instructions will make it easier. Here’s everything you need to know about blepharoplasty recovery time and recovery process: 1. Consult about your self-care routine. Consult your surgeon and their team about self-care instructions before the eyelid surgery. It differs from one patient to another, but your doctors know what routine works best for you. Basics after blepharoplasty include keeping your head elevated, cool compresses or ice packs for the swelling, eye drops for moisture, antibiotic ointment for lubrication, and sterile gauze to dab on your surgical incisions if it oozes out. 2. Take time off. Ask a colleague, family, or friend to cover daily tasks you can’t do, and be ready to have someone to contact in case you need something urgent. Your pantry should also be fully stocked. This way, you can focus more on healing and speed it up significantly. 3. Get plenty of rest. You will feel tired easily during your recovery period. Rest is a crucial component of healing for the body, and this applies to your eyes too. Aside from the quantity, the quality of your rest is also critical, so be sure to get a good night’s sleep to speed up the wound and swelling healing process. 4. Avoid intensive exercise and strenuous activities. Don’t do strenuous exercise to reduce post surgery bruising and swelling. Avoid strenuous and heavy physical activities for two to four weeks during recovery. They increase blood flow and pressure in your head, which impacts wound healing around your eyes. Heavy lifting, jogging, running, aerobics, and bending are a few activities to skip during this time. 5. Protect your eyes from external elements. Wind, sunlight, and other elements are very harmful to your eyes during recovery, so observe safety measures as much as possible. If you are required to go out, wear dark sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your eyes. 6. Stay relaxed. Promoting proper recovery after your eyelid surgery requires stress-free environments. Avoiding stressors like work calls and emails is crucial for faster healing. You can also look into activities that require little to no eye activity and relax you the most, such as listening to calm music and audiobooks. 7. Cut on your device use. Description: Avoid rubbing your eyes and watching TV for the first few weeks after your surgery to reduce swelling and bruising. Computers, TVs, and mobile devices can strain your eyes quickly, so make sure not to spend long hours on the screen. You should also not wear contact lenses. These post-surgery activities can dry your eyes, affecting the healing process. 8. Stop smoking. If you are a smoker, it’s a no-brainer to avoid smoking for this procedure. It stunts your healing and increases your risk of infection. It is recommended to avoid smoking at least six weeks before the eyelid surgery and the entirety of your recovery period of two to four weeks. 9. Sleep with your head raised. During the first week after your surgery, sleep with your head raised. This reduces pressure on the surgery incisions. How Long Is Recovery From Lower Blepharoplasty? Blepharoplasty recovery takes 10 to 14 days, depending on factors like your lower eyelid skin condition. Most patients are expected to feel well and fit to return to their physical activities during this period, but they should prepare to give the eyelids more time to heal and observe self-care. However, some patients may take longer for social recovery after the expected healing period. Some patients might feel too conscious during social interactions due to the visible results of the procedure. Risks and Side Effects of Eye Bag Surgery Risks of eye bag plastic surgery include bruising and swelling. Though this rarely happens, you might have dry eyes after eye bag surgery. However, it only lasts for a week. If this persists for weeks, consult your doctor. In addition, eye bag plastic surgery can cause bruising and swelling. However, they usually go away one to two weeks after the surgery. You should not be alarmed by them unless they persist for many weeks. My patients’ vision returns back to normal right after the eye bag plastic surgery. They usually return home right after the procedure. Many of them also go back to work or school on the same or the next day. Hence, eye bag surgery must be done by a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon. If you choose a subpar practitioner, you might suffer from a more noticeable eye bag on one side or worse, suffer from eye bag surgery gone wrong. Additionally, sinuses make thin mucus that drains out from the nose channels. This drainage aids the nose in keeping away bacteria. It also makes the nose clean. Sinuses are normally filled with air. A cleft palate occurs when the mouth’s roof does not completely close. The opening can extend into the nasal cavity. The cleft may also involve either or both sides of the palate. It can also extend from the front of the mouth (hard palate) to the throat (soft palate). Oftentimes, the cleft also includes the lip. However, a cleft palate is not as noticeable as a cleft lip. This is because the cleft palate is located inside the mouth. For some people, a cleft palate may be the only defect. For others, the condition may be associated with cleft lip or other syndromes. Reasons Why Men Get Nose Jobs Men get nose jobs because of medical problems, reconstruction, and aesthetics. There are many reasons why men get nose jobs. In this section, I will explain the three main reasons why men get nose jobs. 1. Medical Problems A deviated septum is extremely common. Approximately 80% of all septa deviate in some way, according to the American Academy of Otolaryngology. The nasal septum describes the cartilage that separates your nostrils. Typically found at the center, the nasal septum divides your nostrils evenly. However, some people have irregular septa. This condition, also known as a deviated septum, makes one nostril bigger than the other. Severe irregularity can cause complications. Given this, you might be suffering from a deviated septum without you knowing. A deviated septum leads to many other problems that can affect your everyday life. For one, a deviated septum comes with many symptoms. These include difficulty breathing, nosebleeds, nasal infection, headache, and sinusitis. In severe cases, a deviated septum aggravates sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can be dangerous. In some cases, it causes people to die in their sleep. For these reasons, you must have deviated septum surgery as soon as possible. Preventing the complications caused by a deviated septum is better than treating them all together. 2. Reconstruction Athletes playing high-contact sports such as football, boxing, and basketball often end up with broken noses. This makes broken noses one of the most common injuries in sports. When athletes get a fractured or broken nose, they seek help from cosmetic surgeons to fix the damage. However, a broken nose is also common for people who do not engage in sports or other intense physical activities. Since the nose is central to your face, it becomes vulnerable to injuries. Specifically, you can get a broken nose because of vehicle accidents, falling on your face, or someone hitting you in the face. In addition, botched surgeries can cause a broken nose. Cheap nasal procedures come with a greater cost― a broken nose or more complications. As a result, patients have to pay more for other medical bills. This could have been prevented if patients went to an expert rhinoplasty surgeon offering high-end procedures. A male nose job fixes a broken nose. Particularly known as revision rhinoplasty, this reconstructive surgery fixes noses that went through severe trauma. 3. Aesthetics One of the most common factors men consider when getting nose jobs is their appearance. As I said, there is nothing wrong with wanting to improve your looks. Doing what you think is best for your appearance and your life in general improves the way you live. Given this, you should not hesitate if you want to change the way your nose looks. After all, men suffer from many cosmetic issues, too. For one, a hump on your nose can become unsightly especially if it looks huge. A bulbous nose also looks disproportionate to the rest of your face, especially if you have a small face. Moreover, an extremely short, long, or tall nose can affect your self-esteem. If you act or model for a living, this can affect your work performance as well. Male Nose Job Based on the Golden Ratio The golden ratio is the standard of universal beauty. You probably heard about the golden ratio in your mathematics class. Interestingly, experts worldwide have assigned numbers indicating universal beauty― about 1.62. The golden ratio describes, in numerical terms, the human perception of beauty. Leonardo Da Vinci, the famous painter, realised that the closer an object gets to the golden ratio, the higher its perceived level of beauty. Interestingly, Da Vinci used the golden ratio when painting the Mona Lisa. This makes the golden ratio a crucial indicator of universal beauty. Hence, I base the procedures I perform on the golden ratio. By using the golden ratio as a basis, I offer my patients the symmetry their faces need. This principle also helps me make customised treatment plans for different conditions. Contrary to popular belief, the golden ratio applies to men as well. In fact, I used the golden ratio to determine the most handsome man in the world. I, Dr. Julian De Silva, was recognised by many news outlets and magazines worldwide including CNN, People Magazine, and Oprah because of this. Cosmetic Issues a Male Nose Job Can Solve From asymmetry to other deformities, a male nose job can solve many cosmetic issues. Interestingly, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that male nose jobs ranked first among all male cosmetic surgical treatments in 2020. There are many cosmetic issues male nose jobs can solve. Here they are: 1. Asymmetrical Face Your nose is at the central point of your face. It gets a lot of attention, simply because of its position. A strange-looking nose destroys your facial balance. Even if the rest of your face looks fine, an unattractive nose can ruin your overall appearance. Moreover, if you have a strange-looking nose, people easily notice it. Some will point it out, others won’t. Those who tell you that your nose looks strange can hurt your confidence. A male nose job can solve this. By fixing your nose’s appearance, rhinoplasty can restore your facial balance. 2. Crooked Nose A crooked nose becomes highly noticeable from the sides. Crooked noses cannot be usually noticed from the front. However, some crooked noses become too severe that they get noticed from the front. A bump on the bridge of your nose usually causes its crooked appearance. When the bump on your nose becomes too large, it becomes noticeable at any angle. In addition, an injury can cause a crooked nose. In particular, an injury can damage your nasal bridge, making it look crooked. Hence, a crooked nose needs to be fixed as soon as possible. A male nose job can do this. By removing the hump on your nasal bridge, rhinoplasty can make your nose look straight. 3. Long or Narrow Bridge A long or narrow bridge describes an excessively long, excessively narrow, (or a combination of both) bridge appearance. It often looks like a seagull’s beak. Unfortunately, this unflattering nose shape cannot be easily changed without surgery. While non-surgical rhinoplasty can help, it cannot totally change a long or narrow bridge. Fortunately, a cosmetic surgeon can change a long or narrow bridge. In particular, a surgeon can change the nose’s appearance by shaving it down, shortening it, or widening it. Just like female rhinoplasty, a male nose job can also do the improvements mentioned above. By changing the nose’s dimensions, rhinoplasty can enhance a nose with a long or narrow bridge. 4. Bulbous Nose A bulb-like shape at the end of the nose characterises a bulbous nose. A bulbous nose also involves a droopy tip and narrow bridge. In some cases, the bridge is wide. In addition, a bulbous nose can be caused by ethnicity. Interestingly, a bulbous nose is common among eastern European men. In fact, I have operated on European patients suffering from this. Fortunately, a male nose job can improve the appearance of a bulbous nose. By altering the nasal tip and bridge, rhinoplasty makes the tip more refined. It can also make the nasal bridge look proportionate with the rest of the face. 5. Pinched Tip Does your nose look as if someone endlessly pinches it? You likely have a pinched nasal tip. Unlike many nasal cosmetic issues, a pinched nose is often not caused by accidents or congenital conditions. Instead, botched surgeries usually cause pinched nasal tips. Due to this, a pinched nose can lead to serious structural and functional problems. If a botched surgery caused your pinched nose, you need to correct it immediately. A male nose job can correct a pinched nose. By reconstructing your nose, a cosmetic surgeon can eliminate your nose’s pinched look for good. 6. Uneven Nose Another common reason why men get nose jobs is an uneven nose. Often caused by a deviated septum present at birth, an uneven nose can also be an immediate product of accidents and botched surgeries. Just like any part of your body, your severe trauma can change your nose’s shape. While a deviated septum falls under the medical category, it can also be a cosmetic issue for men. Not only does it lead to complications, a deviated septum also decreases men’s confidence. A male nose job can help you solve this problem. By altering bone, cartilage, or both, a cosmetic surgeon can make your nose look even. 7. Boxy Tip A boxy tip describes the wide, rectangular shape at the tip of your nose. Like others in this list, a boxy tip destroys your facial balance. Worse, it can affect your self-esteem and relationships. The bridge of your nose might be perfectly straight, but if its tip looks boxy, your nose remains strange-looking. Moreover, a boxy tip becomes more noticeable from the bottom view. While a boxy tip does not cause alarm, you might want to change it. If it negatively affects your life, you should have it fixed as soon as you can. A male nose job can help you get rid of your nose’s boxy tip. By manipulating your nasal tip, a cosmetic surgeon can make your nose look better. 8. Hanging Nose A hanging nose is another reason why men get rhinoplasty. Interestingly, a hanging nose is usually congenital. It has been present since my patients’ birth. However, there is nothing they can do about it so they opted for surgery. People have hanging noses because of issues with their columella. The columella describes the tissue and cartilage that separate your nostrils. When the columella hangs or goes beyond the outer rim of your nostril, it looks drooping or pointed. Scientifically known as alar columellar disproportion, you can live just fine with a hanging nose. However, if you want to improve your appearance, you can opt for surgery. A cosmetic surgeon can help eliminate your hanging columella by trimming it. 9. Pointed Tip As its name suggests, a pointed tip is an extremely raised tip. An excessive amount of cartilage at the nasal tip usually causes this. Consequently, this cosmetic issue makes men’s faces look unbalanced. It becomes worse when the nasal bridge looks wide and short. In addition, a pointed tip with a narrow bridge looks great on women, but not on men. A narrow bridge and pointed tip are associated with a feminine look. Hence, men with narrow bridges and pointed tips opt for surgery. Rhinoplasty can make them look more masculine. A male nose job can help you eliminate your nose’s pointed tip. By trimming the excessive cartilage on the tip of your nose, a cosmetic surgeon can make you look more masculine. 10. Other Deformities When your nose gets exposed to severe trauma, its form changes. Accidents can slash your nose, break your nasal bridge, or destroy your nasal tip. Similarly, several conditions can cause your nose to look bigger over time. For instance, rhinophyma, a condition in which the lower part of your nose grows too much, makes your nose look bigger. A male nose job can help get rid of these deformities. By removing diseased skin and reconstructing the nose, a cosmetic surgeon can restore the look and function of your nose. Before a Male Nose Job Before getting a male nose job, you need to consult a doctor. Before getting a male nose job, you need to consult an experienced surgeon who specialises in mens nose jobs. You can book a consultation with me here. During the consultation, we will talk about your current condition and medical history. I need to see whether a certain condition or accident caused your nose to look strange. If you are coming to me because of a botched surgery, I will ask you about what happened. This helps me plan your surgery accordingly. I will also ask if you have other nose-related problems such as sinusitis. In relation to this, I will ask you what medicine you take, if any. In addition, you have to disclose whether you smoke or drink on a regular basis or not. Then, we will talk about your goals. Whether it’s improving your looks, fixing your nose’s function, or correcting the damages of severe trauma, you need to tell me everything. Depending on your goals, I will explain whether male rhinoplasty will work on you or not. If yes, I might suggest complementary procedures such as deep plane facelift and eye bag removal. I will then explain how the procedure goes and the risks associated with it. If you opt to have the complementary procedures that I suggested, I will explain them as well. If you approve and agree with everything discussed, you can set an appointment for a male nose job. During a Male Nose Job A male nose job involves the manipulation of bone, cartilage, or both. Before the surgery, you need to have anaesthesia. This minimises the pain caused by surgery. Since incisions are painful, you need anaesthesia. The anaesthesiologist will administer the anaesthesia. For full disclosure, my clinic uses sedation anaesthesia, a safer alternative to general anaesthesia. After the anaesthesia takes effect, I will make an incision on the target area. Depending on the goals, I will manipulate cartilage, bone, or both. I might trim, reposition, or remove them. Once I finish manipulating what needs to be manipulated, I will stitch the incisions up. After a Male Nose Job You must take care of yourself to recover from a male nose job properly. Once the surgery is done, you have to stay in the facility for observation. The staff will monitor you during this time for any immediate complications. A male nose job usually does not require an overnight stay, so you can go home once the staff clears you. You should have someone drive you home after rhinoplasty. Your nose is fragile and you might not feel well, so you should not drive. Male Nose Job Side Effects Side effects of a nose job include swelling, bruising, and numbness. After the surgery, you may temporarily experience: Bruising Swelling Pain or discomfort Congestion Numbness Dryness Fortunately, these effects are temporary. You will recover from them soon enough as long as you take care of yourself properly. Recovery Recovering from men’s rhinoplasty takes time, so you have to be patient. Recovery can take weeks to happen. In this section, I will explain to you the male nose job recovery timeline. The week after your surgery, your cast will be removed. Most of the swelling will go away and bruising will improve. You also won’t feel pain. During this week, you can use makeup. Two weeks after the surgery, your bruises will completely go away. There will be some swelling left, but your scars will be less noticeable. Three weeks after the surgery, your scars won;t be noticeable from afar. The next week, your sense of smell will go back to normal. Your nose won’t be dry. In addition, you will notice the fine changes in your nose. Two to three months after the surgery, swelling will completely go away. Nasal dryness will go away as well. How Much Is Nose Plastic Surgery? Travel Comparing the cost of cosmetic surgery in your country to another country can be challenging. On top of that, you should also calculate the total cost of having your procedure done overseas. Additionally, since you will be traveling abroad, you will need to add in the cost of getting to and from your destination. This will also include the cost of accommodations and transportation while you are there. 6. Pre-Operative Processes A scar removal surgery cost includes the cost of pre-operative processes. The preoperative period may last for months for patients who have their surgery planned. Some patients require extensive testing in order to determine whether they can tolerate the surgery and anaesthesia. Others patients require a certain period of time. During this time, they work to improve their overall health under the care of the preoperative team. In addition, your surgeon may order you to undergo a series of tests. The tests are done to make sure you are healthy enough to tolerate the stresses of surgery. These tests may range from blood tests, chest x-rays, and stress tests. This also includes imageing tests like CT scans, MRI, Ultrasound, or PET scans. Any additional tests that the surgeon deems necessary will also be done. The cost of these tests can range from hundreds of pounds to thousands of pounds. 7. Postoperative Care Aftercare support is necessary for some patients. Other patients might also need post-op consultation. Your doctor may include aftercare-related expenses in your bill. 8. Time Off of Work Factoring in the cost of scar removal surgery, consider the financial implications of taking leave from your job. The recovery phase post a cosmetic operation can vary in duration. The healing process is unique for each individual and hinges on several aspects. These can range from the type of surgery undergone to your overall well-being. Given these variables, it’s crucial to consult with your cosmetic surgeon about the expected duration of your recovery. Why Surgery Is the Best Treatment to Remove Scars Undergoing scar removal surgery has its perks, including lasting effects and a boost in self-confidence. Here’s why many consider surgery the top choice for facial scar treatment: 1. Surgery offers permanent results. While non-invasive facial treatments have their merits, they typically provide short-term outcomes. For long-lasting effects, non-surgical methods might need to be done repeatedly. In contrast, surgical options promise extended, often permanent results. A surgical approach addresses scars effectively, particularly if the skin is taut. Surgeons can employ specific techniques that align and relax the skin perfectly. Surgical strategies for scar amelioration differ based on the scar’s nature. Options might involve grafting skin to mend extensively damaged areas or layered closures to attend to both superficial and deeper skin layers. It’s pivotal to remember that changes from surgery can be profound, influencing both how you feel about yourself internally and externally. 2. Scar removal surgery enhances your look. Scars can manifest in diverse ways – they might be raised, recessed, discoloured, or even cause discomfort. Thankfully, surgical scar treatments can mitigate scar visibility, whether they stem from accidents, previous surgeries, or other incidents. While it’s a myth that scars can be wholly erased, surgical interventions can significantly soften their appearance, making them almost imperceptible. Opting for scar removal surgery can enhance your social and professional interactions. Especially in professions where your look plays a pivotal role, the benefits can be substantial. 3. Surgery scar removal gives you more confidence. Paying for a scar removal surgery cost can increase your confidence. While scars might linger for years, treatments can rejuvenate your skin’s texture, often in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Most individuals pursue these procedures to refine their aesthetics, leading to a surge in their self-worth. A renewed appearance often instills heightened self-belief, prompting a more vivacious engagement in social contexts. 4. Scar removal surgery can prevent complications Scars might limit movement in certain areas. In places with less skin flexibility, this could result in contractions. Scar revision surgery can liberate these constraints, reinstating full mobility. Furthermore, scars can sometimes be intensely painful, more so if neuromas develop. Surgical intervention can ward off these ensuing complications. 5. Surgery scar removal can be more cost-effective in the long run. In the grand scheme of things, surgery can be more wallet-friendly, especially if multiple treatments are in the cards. Even if the initial outlay seems steep, remember that the benefits are long-lived. Conclusion While there’s an array of treatments for facial scars, the best fit is subjective, depending on your personal preferences, budget, and the scar’s specifics. It’s paramount to collaborate closely with a top-tier facial plastic surgeon in the UK to pinpoint the optimal solution. While scars might never vanish completely, the right treatment can render them barely noticeable. Fancy a chat with one of the UK’s premier cosmetic surgeons? Book a consultation with me today!
